On an all-in-one conference platform, the first communication science conference directed by the Institute for Communication Science and Media Research (IKMZ) at the University of Zurich took place online in April 2021. Considered a great success, the event featured the participation of more than 550 people from 16 countries. Well-established components of annual conferences were supplemented in this event by new, innovative elements, creating an event that was a multimedia experience for the participants.

The program included some 120 scientific presentations and a keynote address, panel discussions, general meetings and workshops. Live moderation in the lobby and special formats such as online speed dating, the “get-together” and also the conference dinner in virtual meeting rooms contributed to a special conference community feeling.
